Since today, the alpha UseBB 2 source code has been added into our public Subversion repository.

The website has not been updated yet, but you can find SVN connection information over at https://sourceforge.net/svn/?group_id=93103. The web interface can be found at http://usebb.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/usebb/.

Note all code changes are also sent to the checkins mailing list. For subscription information, see https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/usebb-checkins.

What's next is to compose coding guidelines for anyone wishing to contribute code. As usual, all code is kept under the GNU General Public License.

Merci

Great News for useBB. But theres nothing in the SVN at the time? A bug?

Great development news :)

All I can say is: good luck Dietrich ^^

But this is a pre-pre-pre alpha version.. only the base...

For the rest where found?

There is no rest... this is not the previously announced 1.99 version. 1.99 was cancelled and the currently completed code is now available and maintained in the public SVN repository.

But not works.. need more develpment?

What's there is the only code developed so far. It is by no means complete. It is still a work in progress.

I dont understand.

Is version 2 released in sources? ;s

I cant find any files in the link

This is development code, please read the roadmap for once.

Dietrich, don't expect everybody to have 30 year of knowledge about development codes.
I read the roadmap, didn't understand.

anyway, development code and php code is not same or what?
Just tell me whats the point of releasing it then ;s

As I said above, it means that it is still a work in progress. The code that is there is not a fully functional forum, but, is being developed.

You don't write 30,000 lines of code just like that. The original goal was to develop the code until there is a decent codebase which can be used by developers to eventually start writing side products and comment on the system design (not the layout, since this is one of the final stages). Since this idea to keep the code secret has been ditched, it is now in the Subversion repository. The code in there is under development, just as you would build a house yourself and start with the foundations. This doesn't mean the house is already complete. I don't know what could be hard to understand about that.

The roadmap clearly states the releases to come (betas, 2.0.0). There has not been a single release of 2.0 yet so I don't know how you end up thinking 2.0 has been released.

I would recommend to read:
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subversion_%28software%29

If I understood it correct, the codebase is not done which must mean you are faaaaaaaaar away from done with 2.0?

I'm wondering why you ask that question. You run a forum on web development, which means you should be aware of road maps, and on how things are working in a development process..

2.0 is being developed, so it's not done.

The question on how 'faaaaaaaaaar away' from a 2.0 release can't be answered i guess, since people can still do feature requests. These requests are reviewed by the developers which they think are a good addition to have.

My web developing forum, hmm..glad you bringed it up..that's also the reason why I ask.

What I could understand from Dietrich very detailed explanations; (which still doesn't make sense, oh I must be a dummy), is that he didn't even complete the base (foundation), which means it must be a really long way left to the release of it, which means I will consider to change forum becouse the sub-forums are really so needed atm.
I can't post, becouse I can't sort everything out as I want to.

After reviewing alot of forums, it seems that all are missing the sub-forum feature.
My question:
How comes so many forum softwares are missing it? This is one of the most importnant base feature in my eyes.
Let me know about such general stuff..I can't figure it.

I hope the developers doesn't offend, or think I am a pamper.
I am indeed very happy with this forum, but just this small feature ... :s pff

But as many forums don't got the sub-forums, I think you will win alot of users at the release of 2.0

The fact that sub-forums were not included in 1.0 were stated in the feature section. This is something you should of researched, or asked, before using the software. Also, most recent forum's have sub-forums, so I am not sure what you are speaking of.

He wants to add a category, and add a forum, and put forums into that forum. Sub-forums.
Meaning a forum can act as a category.

Like having a category called software
wit a forum called server-software, and having onther child as windows, linux, mac os

Which all forumsoftware has (IBPro, phpBB, vBulletin, etc..)

Which takes us to level 2... Why use UseBB over any other (sub-forum capable instead of the other), is because UseBB is fast, compared to other packages, it's not bloated with bullshit. It has pretty-urls (which good be better, but hey, 2.0 is in development...)

No-one needs subforums unless they never took the time to ordganize things as they should.

Don't blame the software if it doesn't suit your needs....

It's true that UseBB don't give me all that I want, but hey, it's the best I've tried so far. I don't need crappy urls (phpBB, IBpro, vBulletin, SMF), which adds up to SEO.

The best software has never been written, becaue people has different needs. If it's the sub-forum issue, UseBB 1.0 might not be the package you need. That's no problem, but then ask yourself, is it worth swichting to something else?

I need to stay ahead of competeting sites, and UseBB is perfect to acomplish that...

I can list a few things I miss in 1.0.x, but hey, there's a feature request forum for 2.0.... And sub-forums are listed... Wait for 2.0, or change forums...

To me, UseBB is the best there is for now. I hope 2.0 gives the things I think a forum needs, if not, the above said forums I'd never use, they're to @#%^#^&#$%^#$ up....

It's all about what YOU want for your site, and what your users want to have...

If you want sub-forums now, UseBB isn't the package you need... If you want a php5/mysql5 forum... and adds up to SEO... you're in the correct place... Make you choise, depending on the people you target...

if you drive 1 miles from home->work you can do fine with a crappy car, but i drive 2 hours, and need a good car, so i use UseBB....

Choise are need to be made, if you want it or not...

UseBB is a light forum but it does have its limitations and design flaws (these have been summarized in an introduction document that has been posted in PDF format on the mailing list months ago). Having no subforums isn't really a design flaw but an irritating limitation (there are only categories and forums that cannot be nested). In v2 this will be resolved by allowing forums to be nested and act as either a category (no topics) or forum (topics).

So, there are many more limitations, these will get fixed in v2 because there is no future in keeping v1 under development (PHP 4 EOL etc). There are indeed quite some delays with v2, resulting in the lack of new features in UseBB forum software since a couple of years. All I can say is to be patient or look for something else (which seems to be what you have done). The feature page clearly states UseBB 1's limitations so if you get surprised later on you probably didn't read it properly. A software package's possibilities and limitations is one of the main things you should check before making a choice.

Dietrich, you're doing a great job here.
This forum is perfect for much, but not my purpose.
My web developing forum really needs the sub-forums, therefore I had to change.

I will continue stay alive at this community, and might start to use UseBB some day when the sub-forums are added.

Thanks everyone for all the help :)

Usebb 2.0 project is dead?
Or continu ?
What time finish and release ?
I need these very info

Thanks avance..

UseBB 2.0 is in development. Read the roadmap.

A specific time for these releases is not given (WID - When It's Done). Please do not ask for an estimated release date at this time.

Yes, 1-year fact that we are talking about the version 2 :?

We are talking about v2 since 2005, so it's definitely more than a year.

One of the most important features that should be added is the ability to accept payments (via PayPal, for example) in exchange for enhanced accounts. THIS way, those of us who are willing to help support the project financially could do so. Or, even a simply DONATE button somewhere on this site.

This is a great forum script and we'd like to see it move forward. Let us help...

ive added a donate button to my site all you need is a paypal, althogh i did do it in html and edit the global.tpl.php to do it
